The programme of cooperation between the Institute of Civil Engineering of NSUACE (Sibstrin) and the Faculty of General Construction of the International Educational Corporation (Republic of Kazakhstan) has been finished

The Institute of Civil Engineering of NSUACE (Sibstrin) has completed the programme of cooperation with the Faculty of General Construction of the International Educational Corporation/IEC (the leading successor to the Kazakh Leading Architectural and Civil Engineering Academy, Almaty, Republic of Kazakhstan).

As part of the interaction, the work was been carried out at three levels: bachelor students, master’s students and faculty staff.

“Last spring, together with the International Educational Corporation (the leading successor to the Kazakh Leading Architectural and Civil Engineering Academy), we organized and held the X International Festival of Architecture, Construction and Design Schools of Eurasia at a very high level. Currently, NSUACE (Sibstrin) and the IEC are discussing several cooperation projects, one of which - between the construction faculties - has been implemented. As part of the interaction between the Institute of Civil Engineering and the Faculty of General Construction the work has been carried out at three levels simultaneously - with bachelor students, master’s students and teachers of the Kazakh University. On the part of NSUACE (Sibstrin) the leading graduate departments have been involved: Metal and Wooden Structures, Reinforced Concrete Construction, Geological Engineering, Bases and Foundations, Technologies and Organization of Construction”, said Natalya Sineeva, the director of the Institute of International Affairs.

From March 14 to March 30, 13 second-year master’s students of the Faculty of General Construction took a remote internship on the new Yandex platform. The internship programme included online participation in the scientific seminars of the Institute of Civil Engineering and the student scientific and technical conference at NSUACE (Sibstrin) in civil engineering, review lectures on the scientific developments of the graduating departments, as well as the discussion of master’s theses in individual consultations with the leading scientists of the Institute of Civil Engineering, NSUACE (Sibstrin).

The director of the Institute of International Affairs, Natalia Sineeva said that within the framework of a two-week internship, it was possible to fully show the scientific and educational potential of the Institute of Civil Engineering of NSUACE (Sibstrin): “Master’s students successfully connected to the sections of the scientific and technical conference, where students presented the results of their research and development activities, to the scientific seminars of the Institute of Civil Engineering where the materials of candidate dissertations were presented by the staff of the Building Materials Department written by Yuri Gerber and Maxim Veshkin. Thus, they heard about the scientific achievements of students, undergraduates and young scientists of NSUACE (Sibstrin) in their areas of research. Also, the scientists of the main graduating departments - Metal and Wooden Structures, Reinforced Concrete Construction, Geological Engineering, Bases and Foundations, Technologies and Organization of Construction - organized review lectures on their scientific developments, for which they are grateful. In addition, within the framework of a scientific internship, the representatives of these departments were the consultants to master’s dissertations of Kazakh master’s students and gave their recommendations. The master’s students and the administration of the IEC, the Faculty of General Construction were satisfied with the results of the internship, noting its quality, a high level of technical and organizational support”.

Following a two-week scientific internship, the master’s students of the IEC received the certificates of participation, as well as new knowledge, useful experience and written recommendations on their master’s dissertations.

Another important part of cooperation between the divisions of the two universities was the advanced training courses for the faculty of the IEC in metal structures and 3D design. They were held from March 29 to April 28 in a remote format and ended with final certification. The course was attended by 10 young teachers of the Faculty of General Construction, who needed a strong base in the field of metal structures and design in the SCAD software and computing complex.

“Before launching this part of the project a lot of preliminary work was carried out: several remote meetings where we figured out the wishes of the Kazakh side to the course content. On its basis the Institute of Civil Engineering and the Institute of International Affairs drew up and agreed on its program”, said Natalya Sineeva. The courses were taught by Yuri Gerber, the Director of the SEC of Computer Modeling and Design of NSUACE (Sibstrin), and Sergey Shafrai, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Metal and Wooden Structures. Both teachers have extensive practical experience, which is important for advanced training courses. The course included 36 online hours without unsupervised activities”.

In addition, within the framework of cooperation in the spring semester (from February to May), Sergey Shafrai, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Metal and Wooden Structures of  NSUACE (Sibstrin) gave an online lecture course “Design and Calculation of Metal Structures” for 3-year bachelor students studying at the Faculty of General Construction of the Kazakh University. The total number of lecture listeners is more than 300 people.

“NSUACE (Sibstrin) has agreements on strategic cooperation with almost all specialized universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan”, said Vladimir Gvozdev, The Director of the Institute of Civil Engineering. “The exchange of knowledge, scientific and pedagogical experience fill these agreements with real work, which gives impetus to improve the quality of training of master’s students and the qualifications of teachers, and in the future - for joint scientific projects, bilateral academic mobility of students and teaching staff”.

The implementation of the cooperation programme with the Faculty of General Construction of the International Educational Corporation/IEC (the leading successor to the Kazakh Leading Architectural and Civil Engineering Academy, Almaty, Republic of Kazakhstan) was carried out by the Institute of Civil Engineering together with the Institute of International Affairs with the support of the Information Technology Department.
